Help Kittens Find Their Forever Homes
Read time: 3 min
While many cat parents are thrilled that summer is in full swing, this is also a time of year cat shelters across the UK await anxiously: kitten season.
Between April and September, cat populations explode. With most stray cats giving birth during this period. But many of those litters go straight to shelters. Which can push their resources to the limit.
In April 2024, we launched the KatKin Adoption Club in partnership with The Scratching Post Cat Rescue. And every week on Instagram, we post a different cat up for adoption. To help more cats find their forever homes.
But with kitten season now starting, we’ve decided it’s time to take the KatKin Adoption Club up a notch. So we’ve partnered with Here for Cats, too. To reach even more cat parents across the UK. And for the first week of July, we’ll be dedicating our social media pages to kittens looking for their new homes.
The Scratching Post Cat Rescue
Based in Waltham Abbey and operating in North London, Essex and Hertfordshire, The Scratching Post shelter was founded in 2004 by Susan Delaney. With the aim of ensuring that no cat is ever kept in unsuitable accommodation while it’s waiting for a new home.
Twenty years later, the shelter now has seven buildings. Which house about 90 cats and kittens at any given time. With isolation, maternity, kitten, feral and long-term resident units. As well as units for cats who are ready to be rehomed.
All cats at The Scratching Post are vet-checked, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, and given any other veterinary treatment before they’re rehomed. They’re also neutered. (Once they’re old enough.) And microchipped on adoption.

Here For Cats
Here For Cats is a rescue group that was established in 2014. With the aim to provide shelter, food, warmth and veterinary care to cats in need in Surrey and neighbouring counties.
Cats and kittens are initially cared for in one of their foster homes or in their cattery before a suitable home is found for them.
It can take up to two months of dedicated care by the Here For Cats team to prepare cats with kittens for new homes. Kittens are weaned onto solid food and each one will be health checked and receive standard pre-adoption veterinary care.
If you’d like to support Here For Cats, you can fill out their application form or make a donation.
Not ready to adopt? Don’t worry. There are plenty of other ways to help kittens in shelters. Like donating supplies. Or volunteering your time.
