The KatKin Guide to the Ultimate Cosy Night In with Your Cat

The KatKin Guide to the Ultimate Cosy Night In with Your Cat

Read time: 5 min

The nights are getting longer, outside is getting chillier and the idea of leaving your sofa is laughably unappealing. There’s only one thing for it: a night in with your cat. Think snacks, snuggles and ignoring all responsibilities for the evening. Read on for our ultimate guide.

1. Set the Scene

Cosiness is a non-negotiable. Here’s how to get it right:

  • Lighting: This is a main light-free zone. Instead, flick on some fairy lights or use a soft lamp. Maybe even dig out that lava lamp from 2012. Imagine a spa… minus the strangers in dressing gowns and slippers staring at you.

  • Blankets & Cushions: Pile them up everywhere. On the couch, on the floor, on your lap. Your cat will find the comfiest spot within 2 seconds. That’s just how they work.

  • Sounds: Some quiet music or nature sounds set the mood.

2. Snacks & Treats

Because no cosy night in is complete without snacks. Spoiler: it’s picky bits heaven.

For Your Cat:

Forget boring treats, your cat deserves the best. Our Nibbles are perfect: tasty, 100% chicken breast or salmon and guaranteed to keep your kitty happy while you settle in for the evening. You can even hide a few around the room for a mini treasure hunt that makes snack time extra fun.

For You:

  • Popcorn & chocolate mix: Sweet, salty, crunchy and irresistible. Bonus points if you add in a few nuts or a sprinkle of sea salt. We love Smarties, M&M’s and mini pretzels.

  • Cheese board with a twist: Figs, olives, spiced nuts or a few slices of cured meat elevate your snacking game.

  • Savory pastries: Mini quiches, cheese twists or samosas are perfect for nibbling without leaving your cosy spot.

  • Roasted chickpeas or spiced nuts: Crunchy, flavorful and a little unexpected.

  • Fruit & dip combos: Apple slices with almond butter or grapes with a drizzle of dark chocolate.

  • Something warm: A spiced latte, chai or mulled wine makes the evening feel extra snug.

3. Films That Don’t Bore Cats (or You)

Yes, cats notice screens. And yes, they might judge your taste in movies. Stick to:

  • Nature documentaries: Planet Earth, Our Planet, or anything with birds and fish.

  • Animated cats: The Aristocats, Puss in Boots or Kiki’s Delivery Service. Bonus: these films are actually good.

  • Oddball cat TV: YouTube has surprisingly engaging clips of birds, fish and small critters. Surprisingly hypnotic for humans, too.

4. Fun (and Not Annoying) Activities

  • Playtime: A feather wand or small ball can burn off energy in short bursts. Don’t overdo it though, you want your cat to feel like they had fun, not like they ran a marathon.

  • Grooming: A gentle brush session can calm both of you. Your cat might fall asleep mid-groom, which counts as a win.

  • Cuddles: If your cat’s a snuggler, now’s the time. If they’re not, prepare to be mildly ignored while they lounge in supreme comfort.

5. Extra Tips for Maximum Cosiness

  • Clothing: Sweatpants, oversized sweaters, fuzzy socks.

  • Distractions: Put that phone on DND.

  • Scents: Aromatherapy oils like lavender or chamomile fill the room with a calm vibe.

  • Warmth: Bonus points for heated blankets or a hot water bottle nearby.
