THIS LOST CAT WALKED 800 MILES HOME
Read time: 3 min
The distance between Yellowstone National Park in the US state of Wyoming and the city of Salinas in California? More than 800 miles.
So when Rayne Beau vanished on a family holiday to Yellowstone, cat parents Susanne and Benny Anguiano never thought they’d see him again.
He’d been spooked outside the family’s RV during their holiday. And ran into the forest. Despite an extensive search, Susanne and Benny couldn’t catch sight of him. After days of looking, they had to head home.
As Susanne told the US media: “That was the hardest day because I felt like I was abandoning him.”
But two months later? Susanne and Benny got a call they couldn’t believe. An animal welfare group in Roseville, California had found Rayne Beau, and identified him by his microchip. He’d walked over 800 miles from Wyoming to California. And was only 200 miles from home when he was picked up.
Rayne had lost 40% of his body weight. But after a visit to the vet was found to be in good health – and was reunited with his cat parents and twin sister.
